MICTLAN
The Mictlán, "Region of the dead", was for the ancient Mexicas the final destination of the souls that left their bodies naturally. It was the last stage of the path that the dead undertook after facing various tests while crossing the nine layers of the underworld. Upon arriving with the offerings they brought to the gods, they were received by Mictlantecutli and Mictecacíhuatl, lords of death, who welcomed them in order to find eternal rest.
