Design Inspiration

TEPARI, HUICHOL ART IN CHAQUIRA

Design inspired by the Huichol work Vision of a Mystical World made in beads on wood by the Shaman and Artist Santos Motoaopohua de la Torre Santiago, as part of the Zacatecas Museum Collection of the Government of the State of Zacatecas. The TEPARI or Sacred Disc of TATEWARI, "El Abuelo Fuego", the first shaman and guide of the pilgrimage to "Wirikuta" in Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosí, is a stone disc that covers cavities in the floor of the ceremonial temples. It symbolizes the crust of the earth where the interior enters the underworld and the surface reflects the sky. In the center are peyotes, snakes and the Tatewari llamas. The deer, with an eagle and the sun, among other elements, represent the course of time.
