It all started with an artist named Don Pedro. His dream or nightmare is the source of this design and is described by the following quote, "I died and I was surrounded by mountain, ravines, and I was in one of those places where there was a forest and from there came the Alebrijes..." Shapes, colors and space come together harmoniously, in an overflowing and intense manner. Beauty is found within their ugliness, diabolic, horrific but they are also likable and even tender. The Alebrijes, are a symbol of the Mexican monster. Flying incessantly, deafening, with claws and crest, fangs and fins, tongues and horns that come in thousands of vibrant colors. The rarer the figure, the better the Alebrije.
